Library Instruction Request Form @thelibrary

Photo by: http://www.sxc.hu/profile/ScyzaAre you teaching a class and thinking… “My students would find a library instruction session useful; I wonder who I should contact?” To help you with this question, the Library has created a new web form for requesting a library instruction session at: http://library.boisestate.edu/instruction/instructionrequest.htm .

This form is also available through the Information for Faculty link on the Library’s home page.

Library instruction sessions often cover searching the online catalog, general article indexes, specialized indexes, and finding journals, but they can be tailored to your course assignment. Please give at least one week advance notice, longer for more subject-focused instruction sessions. After you’ve filled out and submitted the form, a librarian will contact you with confirmation and any needed follow-up within two business days.

If you have worked with a librarian in the past on library instruction sessions, you are welcome to continue to contact them directly. But if not, give the new instruction request form a try.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Ebooks @thelibrary

In the past the Albertsons Library's Ebooks page guided users to Internet sources of free books in text form only. Now, for those who enjoy listening to books read aloud, the Ebooks page includes an Audio Books section. There you will find a link to LibriVox ( http://librivox.org/), an exciting open source project without advertising that aims to build "a complete library of all public domain books in audio." Besides having one of the largest collections of free audio books, LibriVox provides links to other audiolit projects, literary podcasts, literary blogs, and audio related resources.

Also listed is the Open Culture: Audio Book Podcast Collection. While it only provides links to about fifty free audio book titles and includes ads, the site contains a valuable annotated list of free foreign language lesson podcasts covering eighteen languages "that you can download to your iPod or just listen to on your computer."

Enjoy!

Lunch at the Library: Who was Emma Angell Drake?

Albertsons Library is pleased to announce “Lunch at the Library” with Gender Studies’ professor Beverly Miller. In honor of Women’s History Month, Ms. Miller will discuss Idaho’s adopted daughter--nationally known author, speaker, suffragist, and reformer, Emma Angell Drake, MD. Miller’s talk will take place Monday, March 19, noon-1:00 p.m. in the McCain Room on the Library’s second floor.

Once a household name, Drake came to Boise in 1917 to head up the state’s Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. She was soon elected to the Idaho legislature, served from 1919-1920, and lobbied for many causes, including women’s suffrage, prohibition, vaccinations for children, and setting a minimum wage for women.

Unfortunately, Drake is not as well known today as other prominent women in her era, including Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Miller, a historian, college professor, retired librarian from Boise State's Albertsons Library, and a longtime member of Boise's feminist community, will discuss Drake's unsung legacy in Idaho and beyond. It's sure to be a lively and enlightening presentation!

Please bring your lunch and join us. Coffee, tea, and cookies will be served. Visitor Parking is available at the Administration Building visitor parking lot, off University Drive--ask for a Parking Validation Stamp at the lecture. For more information, contact Paul Budge or call ext. 6-2580.
