Attention Marketing Students

Want to know how many men between 18 and 49 have had a nutrition/energy bar in the last week? Or, how many college graduates have purchased a Timex watch in the last year. Or, how many women are heavy users of shower and bath gels?

All these questions, and more, can be answered using the MRI+ (Mediamark Research & Intelligence) database, found via the articles, databases link right here on the Library’s home page.

Register for use with your Boise State email address, and, after confirmation, use the Mediamark Reporter link to find more information about understanding consumers and the things they buy.

Check it out, keep it longer

Albertsons Library is extending loan periods for faculty and graduate students.
When checking out or renewing items, graduate students will now see their due dates on every item showing an end-of-semester date (increased from six weeks), while faculty will see their checked out and renewed items due one year from their date of checkout. This is effective immediately.
As always, all checked out items remain subject to recall (and recall fines). See a list of the library's current loan periods at http://library.boisestate.edu/circulation/loan_periods.shtm.
We hope you'll enjoy these longer checkout periods!

Announcing WorldCat Local

Boise State University’s Albertsons Library, in cooperation with the libraries at Lewis-Clark State College, the University of Idaho, and the University of Idaho College of Law, is implementing a groundbreaking new information discovery tool called WorldCat Local.

WorldCat Local allows users to quickly locate information about hundreds of thousands of titles in many formats including: books, videos, articles, internet resources, sound recordings, and more.

While traditional library catalogs provide access to a single library’s collection, WorldCat Local seamlessly accesses the collections of other Idaho libraries and more than 10,000 libraries worldwide.

Now you can find many of the items you want with one search. Interlibrary Loan requests are available with the click of a button. For more information on WorldCat Local contact your library liaison or stop by the reference desk.

To try WorldCat Local and enjoy research made easier use the search box on the library's homepage or click here. WorldCat Local is made available through Albertsons Library and its partners with the support of grant funding.

Summer Starting

Huzzah for the end of finals and the school year!
Starting off the summer with my thoughts spinning…

I just read Soul Agreement by Dick and Tara Sutphen. The book gives different cases of people (some famous, others healers, some in the metaphysical ring, others in the music biz) that Dick and Tara have guided into past-life regression and have given a full astrological charting that connect to the regression.
The book also covers parallels, wanderers, and other ideas connected to those living today.
Soul Agreement is an excellent book in explaining past lives and the way they effect all relationships in this life (beyond just soul mates which so many books cover it becomes ridiculous). There is a reason a mother and daughter don’t get along or why one cannot seem to let go of an abusive partner. This is definitely a topic I would like to look into more myself.

I’m still working on my Henna Magick book. I have found a Reiki healer that uses henna but I need to get a paper that will protect both of our rights for her to electronically sign before we go on any further in my research with her. I’ve done a few rituals, both somewhat small.
I’d like to go ahead and write up a brief explanation of the benefits of henna for skin, hair, and nails, as well as a brief history of henna tattooing. Once I get the technical stuff out of the way I can get to the fun part of ritual, spell, and henna work.

Tributes to Bethine Church

During the Spring 2009 commencement ceremony, Bethine Church, wife of the late Senator Frank Church, will receive an honorary doctorate from Boise State University. Mrs. Church is the seventh person to receive this honor from Boise State. To celebrate this event, Albertsons Library has created a number of physical and web exhibits documenting Mrs. Church’s extraordinary life:

  • A Tribute to Bethine Church” web page presents a short illustrated biography about some of the many accomplishments in Bethine Church’s public and personal life.

  • Bethine Church Digital Collection provides access to approximately 60 photographs documenting Bethine's extraordinary life as a wife, mother, as the "third senator" from Idaho, due to her active participation in public life during her husband's tenure in the Senate, as well as her recent accomplishments in the Idaho Democratic Party and Sawtooth Mountain Recreation Area and Sawtooth Society.

  • Visit the Bethine Church physical exhibit in the display windows outside of the Special Collections Department on the second floor of Albertsons Library during open library hours. The exhibit will be available through the end of May.
  • Transcript of Bethine Church's speech during the commencement ceremony at Boise State University, May 16, 2009
